Our founder and head coach
About the founder & head coach Saud Hafiz
My journey began in challenging circumstances, shaped by hardship, resilience and a strong desire to change.
Growing up in a British Pakistani family, I faced many obstacles early on, particularly the heartbreaking reality of losing my father. Without clear guidance or a role model, I found myself heading down a difficult path, searching for belonging and purpose. As a young boy, I was drawn into environments where I lacked direction, and I reached a crossroads that could have led me towards a dark future.
I knew I could not afford to go down that road. Prison was never an option I was willing to consider. The stakes were high, not just for me but for my family and those who cared about me. It was during this pivotal time that I found hope and a new beginning through boxing.
A kind Irish coach named Paddy at Callowland Boxing Club in Watford became my guide and mentor. Boxing entered my life when I was 13, initially as an escape and a way to channel my energy. It became a transformative force, helping me develop discipline, confidence and resilience. Over the years, I dedicated myself to the sport, representing the Home Counties as an amateur, winning national titles, and eventually turning professional, undefeated and proud of what I achieved.
But my journey was about more than titles. It was about personal transformation and purpose. I pursued education, attended seminars and eventually became a mentor myself. I realised that my lived experience, my struggles and triumphs, equipped me with a unique ability to connect with those facing their own challenges. I have worked extensively across schools in Hertfordshire, helping young people aim higher, believe in themselves and find their own paths.
Today, I run a boxing education programme as well as a community hub dedicated to supporting some of the hardest to reach individuals in our community. I stand against knife crime, gang culture and social exclusion. Since founding West Herts ABC and Educational Support CIC, I have had the privilege of working with hundreds of young people, guiding them towards brighter futures.

"The path to greatness is paved with setbacks; I’ve just learned to keep walking despite the wounds."

My story is one of resilience, a soldier wounded many times but never defeated. I believe that our scars, both physical and emotional, are part of our strength. My lived experience has taught me empathy, understanding and the importance of listening. I know what it feels like to be broken, but also to rise again.
In recent years, especially through the challenges posed by COVID 19, I have extended my work to support adults struggling with mental health issues and social exclusion, many of whom have been deeply affected by the pandemic. My aim is to create a community where everyone feels seen, supported and empowered to reach their potential.
My mission is clear: to use my story, my skills and my passion to help others overcome barriers and unlock their potential. I believe that no matter where you come from, with the right guidance and support, everyone can change their story.
This is my purpose—helping others find their strength, just as I found mine through boxing.
